Wool Heavy Loden Fulled Twill – Natural Light Beige – WWL 03/01

37,90 m

Introducing our premium 100% wool fabric.

It's characterized by its heavy and dense construction using high-quality fibers and a diagonal weave.

This textile is crafted from a blend of fibers sourced from two types of sheep fleece: soft, long-haired and coarse, short-fibered.

This unique combination makes it the perfect choice for heavy coats, including historical garments such as the Carpathian gunia, Highlander cucha, or an early modern sukmana (a simple peasant coat). Additionally, it is well-suited for use as a rug, carpet, or material for historical tents.

Note! It comes in two varieties: regular and impregnated. Impregnation with C6 preparation free from PFOA, PFOC and PFOS compounds. Please ask before buying, which of those two is available for this colour.

OTHER FABRICS FROM THIS COLLECTION

Coat cloth is an exceptionally dense and durable wool fabric that has been produced in the same way for centuries. The process begins with weaving, where tightly twisted wool threads are interlaced to create a strong structure.

The fabric is then felted—subjected to intense compression, friction, and high temperatures—causing the fibers to bond tightly, giving the material a compact surface resistant to wind and cold.

The next step involves raising and shearing the nap, ensuring that the cloth for traditional garments achieves a smooth, dense texture while maintaining its strength. This carefully crafted fabric is perfect for sewing both historical and modern coats, jackets, and kaftans, offering exceptional durability and protection against harsh weather conditions.

Thick woolen cloth is an excellent choice as a tent fabric, providing natural protection against harsh weather conditions.

  1. Thanks to its outstanding insulating properties, wool for tents helps retain heat inside during cold days while also preventing excessive heat buildup in hot summer weather.
  2. Additionally, compared to many other materials, wool offers greater resistance to leakage, making it particularly useful in unpredictable weather conditions.
  3. At the same time, it maintains good breathability, preventing moisture buildup inside the tent.

However, it is important to note that thick woolen cloth is heavier than other tent materials and requires proper care, especially in humid environments where it may be prone to mold and decay. To ensure maximum durability, it is recommended to apply suitable waterproofing treatments to protect the fabric and extend its lifespan.

Note! It comes in two varieties: regular and impregnated. Impregnation with C6 preparation free from PFOA, PFOC and PFOS compounds. Please ask before buying, which of those two is available for this colour.

Wool from the WWL collection is an excellent choice for modern warm winter coats, combining elegance with exceptional functionality.

Thanks to its dense weave and natural thermal insulation properties, coat wool effectively protects against cold, wind, and moisture while ensuring wearing comfort.

Our coat cloth stands out for its durability and resistance to daily wear, and its classic appearance makes it a perfect match for both modern and traditional outerwear styles. The appropriate thickness and richness of the fabric allow coat fabric to drape beautifully, maintaining its shape for many seasons. Whether you're looking for material for a stylish city coat or a sturdy garment for winter adventures, WWL wool guarantees quality and comfort in all conditions.

Grammage is a measure indicating the mass per unit area of a material, denoted in grams per square meter (g/m²).

For instance, if a fabric has a weight of 680 g/m², it signifies that one square meter of the fabric weighs 680 grams.

This measure holds significance as it enables the assessment of fabric density and weight. Generally, a higher fabric weight corresponds to greater density, thickness and heaviness.

It's crucial to note that diverse fabrics may have varying optimal weights based on their intended use. Fabrics with higher weights often boast increased durability, albeit with potential drawbacks of greater density and reduced breathability. Conversely, fabrics with lower weights tend to be lighter and more breathable but may sacrifice durability.

Color Disclaimer

Buying fabrics online is always a challenge, we know you can’t see them in person before making a decision. And yet, choosing the right color is crucial for the overall look of your garment and its details.

That’s why at Woolsome we do our best to represent our fabrics as accurately as possible. We use a professional photography studio and a dedicated color control system to ensure that our photos reflect reality as closely as possible.

However, please keep in mind that colors may vary slightly depending on your screen. The way they appear can be affected by:

  • your monitor or phone settings,
  • lighting conditions (natural or artificial),
  • the angle at which you view the screen.

Shades of red are particularly difficult to reproduce accurately on digital displays.

You may also notice that the main photo (a close-up of the fabric) appears slightly darker than images taken from a greater distance. This is a natural effect: both cameras and the human eye perceive color differently depending on light and perspective.

Please also note that many of our historical fabrics are woven using threads in two different colors (warp and weft). Up close, their structure is clearly visible, while from a distance the colors visually blend, creating a slightly different overall impression.

We want you to feel confident in your choice.

That’s why you can always order a sample before committing to a larger purchase. We also offer complete sample sets for each of our fabric collections.

Warning

Our fabrics are made from 100% natural wool. As a result, washing at too high a temperature may cause shrinkage or felting. We recommend carefully following the washing instructions and washing wool in max temperature 30°C to preserve their natural structure and quality.
