We are aware that hand-woven wool requires a special setting. That is why we have created a special category of fabrics good for dyeing. What will you find in it? Materials in naturally white, cream and gray shades that are ideal for natural dyeing. Each of the shades will give a different effect, but thanks to this, the results will be amazing.

The materials presented in this category come from other collections, you will find our most popular proposals that will allow you to choose the perfect fabric for your needs, regardless of whether you want to sew a dress, robe, caftan or coat.

How to natural dye wool and other textiles?

Natural dyes are easy to find, inexpensive, and can be used for a variety of projects. It's important to know that natural dyes will not produce a true colorfast fabric because all the colors are derived from plants, which can fade and shift over time. However, if you're looking for an historical result and not something that will last forever, then natural dyes are ideal!

Dyeing wool with natural dye

Wool is a popular material for many crafts because it's easy to work with. It also takes dyes well so you can create vibrant colors with wool yarns or fabrics. You should remember that dyeing linen isn't that simply.

To dye wool, simply soak your wool in water in which you previously boiled leaves, flowers, fruits or other parts of plants. Remember not to put wool in boiling water. It is best when the water temperature is around 40 degrees Celsius. Then keep the wool at this temperature for a few hours (the longer the darker the shade) and leave it to cool down overnight. Then rinse out excess dye until water runs clear and let dry completely before using. For the best results when dyeing, it’s important to choose the right fabric.

Historically correct fabrics - hand woven and vegetable dyed wool

Hand woven and vegetable dyed wool is perfect for historical re-enactment. It is made from natural materials and has no synthetic dyes or chemicals added, so making it historically appropriate for many different periods, from antiquity to baroque. The colours are rich and vibrant, shedding light on the time period they represent.

If you're dyeing your own fabric, there are a few things to keep in mind. First, the more natural and pure the fabric is, the better the color will be. So if you're going for a historically accurate piece of clothing, try to find something that's 100% wool or linen, like our textiles.
