Vegetable-tanned sheepskins are natural products that, with proper care, retain their beautiful appearance and durability for many years. Here are some proven guidelines to help you take care of your sheepskin at home:

• Air the sheepskin regularly in fresh air, preferably on a dry, overcast day.

• Do not wash or soak the sheepskin — contact with water will damage it by reversing the tanning process, causing the leather to become stiff and brittle.

• For minor stains, simply wipe the soiled area with a damp, well-wrung cloth. Avoid contact with soap or detergents.

• If your sheepskin has long fleece, it's worth brushing it regularly with a soft brush or a wide-toothed comb to maintain its fluffiness and neat appearance.

• From time to time, shake out the skin to remove dust and loose debris.

• Vegetable-tanned sheepskins have a natural leather scent, which may attract insects, including moths. To prevent this, consider storing your sheepskin with natural moth repellents, such as lavender sachets, cedarwood, or special anti-moth products (without direct contact with the fleece).

• Store the sheepskin in a dry, well-ventilated place — ideally laid flat or loosely folded, with the wool side facing outward.

• Avoid sealed plastic bags and do not store the skin under heavy objects, as this may cause deformation.
