In “Textiles and Clothing, c.1150-1450: Medieval Finds from Museum of London Excavations” by Francis Grew and Margrethe de Neergaard, they reference several examples of fabrics that combine different weights and textures of yarn, usually in stripes: thin and thick yarn, smooth and brushed yarn, alternating bands of tabby-woven and chevron twill. It must have created a very interesting tonal, textural effect, and it’s something that simply doesn’t exist today.
